Do you want to know my biggest photographer secret to getting every toddler to look at my camera during a family session?  Or would you love to know my number one tip for taking family portraits with teens?

Having been a photographer for 14 years,  y’all know I have photographed families with toddlers all the way to teens. I would never admit to having a favorite age, I will admit that capturing families with toddler brings the most spunk and excitement to my lens.  Toddlers see the world through the lens of adventure and fun.  They don’t care about my camera, the perfect outfit or the setting sun.  Toddler care about exploring and bringing the belly laughs.  I was once a young mom with two babies under two, and can vividly remember the chaos of the every day moments and the messy art projects.  Now, I am a mom of two teenaged daughters and now the stress is more about teaching one how to drive and getting everyone to practice.   My point is, I see you mama.

Toddlers Just Want to Have Fun

I recently shared one of my biggest secrets on my instagram page for getting every toddler to look at my camera during family sessions and I’m pretty sire I broke my reels page.  The secret lies in two items that fit in the palm of my hand and are both under ten dollars! Like I mentioned, toddlers want two things from a family session, to explore and to gave fun! That’s it.  If you have read this blog, then you know a family session with me is a series of games.  I have perfected these games over the years to fit every type of family.  My expectations are the same for you as your toddlers are.  Simply show up, love each other and let the magical moments unfold.

Include Your Teens

Although, the trick to family session with teens is to get your teen involved in the planning. Just like with my child and toddler family sessions, I only have two expectations. Show up, loosen up, and let the good times roll – the belly laughs will happen I promise. Basically, we all know that teens can be a little stiff at the beginning of a session. But it’s simply because  they don’t know what to expect. I will be able to help the two of you determine the best outfits and location. We will be sure to include your teen in every part of the process. This is where those games come in handy again!

The Goal

My goal with every family is to encourage you to see the world through the eyes of a toddler for the hour we’re together. I hope the day of the session you and I have built a sense of comfort. My hope is that you can relax and trust that I’ve got you mama. Know that there is nothing your toddler, teen or husband can throw at me that I haven’t seen from my own family, ha!

There is Magic in Your Messy, I promise

As a matter of fact, I never want you to put off family portraits because you are too busy or worried that your child “won’t behave”.  That is the beauty of finding a photographer that focuses on the authentic real life moments over perfection.  This is the value of hiring a photographer who looks at every part of the process as a mom. A mom who has seen her toddlers turn into teens in a blink. Take this as your sign to BOOK YOUR CHILD, TEEN OR FAMILY SESSION TODAY. Let me show you the magic in your messy.
