The number one biggest hang up mom’s have about scheduling fall family pics is dressing the family.  It certainly doesn’t help that here in Houston, it’s one million degrees until January! However, you just landed in the right place! Since, I’ve shot families all over the state for 14 years  and I’m sharing my top three tips for dressing your family for a Texas fall photoshoot.

Top three tips for Fall Wardrobe in Texas

  1. Light Layers are best.

Layering definitely helps create the illusion of fall weather without causing you to sweat to death in the Texas heat. This can be as simple as a fun graphic t shirt with a light weight button up on top or some leather suspenders. Or a a think long sleeve top under a cute corduroy dress. Knee socks under a short dress or fabric bow are perfect for little girls. And layering with accessories such a set of bangle or leather bracelets, a thin knit cardigan or cute hat work well for moms.

  2. Fall colors Pop.

We don’t get a ton of leaf changing here in The Woodlands but we do get some, so dressing in fall colors makes the fall background pop even more.  Rust, Teal, mustard, brown and of course my favorite, maroon can all make the perfect fall color palette. The best part is, I work with every family I photograph to style their crew.  We work together to ensure that your family looks their best and everyone is comfortable!  Nothing makes a scrunch face more than too-tight jeans or scratchy tulle. After so many years of styling clients, I know what looks good on every body type and can work in any budget!

  3. Textures and flowy feel like fall.

Varying textures in clothing and wooded locations combined, add some “fall oomph” to your photoshoot. Think chunky knits and jeans in tall whisky grass. Or a flowy maxi dress in a wooded forest.  I have some magical tricks to add a fake fall Autumn breeze to that beautiful maxi dress, ha. But movement and texture are always a perfect fall combination.
