okay so it was a tough month for me lots of craziness, no camera for most of the month and well just life…so here is what  MY VIEW from behind looks like….i spend most of my days watching observing and following these two crazy girls

what ____ looks like, february | a beautiful life photo - [...] is just one link in an amazingly talented and diverse circle…please visit my wonderful friend Shalonda Chaddock, who inspires me all the time with her huge heart and [...]

alexandra - love it love it!~ like always you are always on top of your game ^^

brenda - Shalonda the way you use your light always captures me and wrap me up all snug and tight. I immediately get a sense of warmth and I swear I smell honeysuckle and BBQ. I now crave for those awesome summer nights where the kids play outside for hours. You would never know from your photos we are in winter…OK, Houston winter but it’s winter. The top right one is gorgeous and I hope you get that one blown up big because it’s magical.

amy grace - shalonda, i think you could photograph them anywhere, doing anything, in the craziest light, and it would always be beautiful. the way you see them, they way you love them, is apparent in every image. you make childhood feel like that universal ideal. i love the mama you are, and the way you make the light and joy dance on them. xoxo

Wendy VonSosen - What a beautiful life, Shalonda. I love all the different angles you shoot from and.. for not having your camera most of the month, I’m super impressed by the moments you captured. That puzzle remains one of my kids’ favorite of all time. I credit it for their superb knowledge of US geography. :)

Sarah c - I swear your images could have their own soundtrack!! You are an enigma sweet girl!! The connection and beauty you find around you and share with us is such a gift!! I’m so blessed to call you a friend. It’s so obvious that you are such a beautiful soul and I just adore these images!!

Summer Murdock - Shalonda, look at these amazing images…love the light. That hula hoop shot and the feet behind the curtain…swoon. Gorgeousness over here…and all this without having your camera most of the month? love love

Stephanie Moore {Tucson AZ Photographer} - Another beautiful month. I love your perspective in the last ones, gorgeous. And I love your light airy editing here. Such a gorgeous month. And thanks for your kind words about me, I’m blushing ;)

Lindsey Bergstrom - Ohhh hon..these are beautiful. I love the one of your girls looking at the moon. And the one with the light into the bedroom…those little feet. love it.

Kara May - Geez lady – your images ALWAYS blow me away! Seriously beautiful! I’m so happy we’re in this circle together. Yes, we will meet someday! xoxox Keep capturing the beauty of life. It’s amazing!

leah - sometimes i believe i should have been a mother to two girls. maybe because i am a sister, with only one sister. and i think that is why i adore your posts so much. it’s so familar yet so unlike my adult life–out numbered by boys. you capture your girls so very sweetly. beautiful images this month…that light! that moon! those feet. love them all. xo

Christina - Beautiful images. I love how you capture real life so well.

Life with Kaishon - Amen! Life does need to be captured. Honestly, what can be more beautiful?

jules - yay … so glad you jumped in this month. you are surrounded by so much beauty, light and love. I adore the ones with the streaming light in the bedroom, the rollerskating ones (I LOVED rollerskating as a kid and can’t wait for b to try it out), and the two of them sitting and gazing up at the moon. love you friend! xoxo

andrea - these are all so incredible, but those toes peeking out under that curtain really speak to me. it is so obvious from your work just how much you love your girls, and how much they love each other. thanks for sharing your world with us all :)

letters to my daughters ltr.4 …spring tx lifestyle photographer

As you can see and if you have followed this blog over the past year you know, i have joined a circle of incredible women and am forever grateful to be a part of this.  these women speak my language.  they FEEL every moment of their lives, the good, the bad, the frustrating and the so happy you can’t catch your breath ones.  AND THEY SHARE THEM.  these letters will move you through a range of emotions and be prepared if you are like me and you cry at songs or commercials you will prob shed a tear to two.  As you will see our lives are so very different and so very awesome in our own ways, in fact we are located all over the world..but we all share one simple common thread, we love our baby girls with every ounce of us.  and after all i can’t imagine a better thing to share.

please take a moment to follow the circle…start with my sweet friend DEBBIE of d*light photographer and her beautiful daughter jo, be prepared to be amazed by her incredible heart, her calm motherly nature and the gasp worthy way she sees the world

…………………………………………………………………….

my sweet sweet baby girls,

last months post was sort of hard to write just like last july’s post was…there is something about each of of you growing that breaks my heart and brings me the most joy you can imagine all in one.  well this month i promise not to be sad, not to be sappy, or any of that gushy mushy mommy stuff.  As i said in the last letter “I cry a lot, and its always in a good way but my heart aches for a repeat of the memories we have made, while my brain is constantly looking forward to the amazing moments that await us, all while trying to engrain every second of the RIGHT NOW into both!”…by the way is it weird to quote yourself?!  hmmm yeah i think it might be…but…well..lets move on ha. So this month i decided to make a list…yep a list of Life To-Do’s!  (after all there was a time i was the self proclaimed “queen of lists”) Its been a while in the making and i have shared parts of it with you years ago but i am adding some more goodies to it and as our days fly by i will surly add more.  I mean, there are so many moments in what we have already experienced in this short time as a family and even more that lie ahead.  This journey i have walked has taught me these life lessons, albeit some have been hard lessons they have all made me who i am today, which in turn has molded the way i teach you to move through each day and put one foot in front of the other on your own path.

1. don’t cast the first stone (literally and figuratively).
nobody really likes a bully at the end of the day, so dont be “that guy”. and remember, words when said with negativity only leave a bitter taste, be the bigger person and take a deep breath before you speak.

2. learn to love {YOU} the rest will follow.
life will constantly throw you curve balls, some you will hit out of the park and some will HIT YOU right on that bony part of your elbow, but the point is if you love {YOU} you can handle them all.

3. be kind.
when it comes from the heart, kindness will always come right back at’cha. leave the meaners, bad karma, and ugliness to others.

4. eat something chocolate every monday morning.
yep it helps, mommy wouldn’t lie (period)

5. you are only as good as the company you keep. you only really need 1-3 super-fabulous-same-clothes-size-or-shoe-size-wearing-good-at-fractions-ice-cream-sharing-tissue-holding-best-of-the-best girlfriends. so choose them wisely. they will be hard to find but once you find them you will know….and btw your sister will be one of them : ). God gave you eachother for a reason young ladies!

6. while practice makes perfect, spontaneity cultivates laughter.
in other words, there is a time to take yourself seriously and there is a time to let yourself live in the moment.  life holds so many rewards for you, you only need to open your heart and mind and let them in.  and coming from an i-hate-change-i-need-routine type a personality ill tell you this one is a toughie but you can do it!

7. always speak the truth, even when the truth scares you.
i refuse to waste a breath on what lies can do, but what i will focus on is always telling the truth.  there will, no doubt, be a time in your life that telling the truth will be hard but to put it concisely there is no other right answer.

8. confidence counts.
always look people in the eye, shake with a firm handshake, and wear some cute shoes. during all walks of life, all ages, and all important inerviews believing in yourself matters. and hey, mommy and daddy will always believe in you!

9. sometimes the lessons we learn in failure are more important than the feelings we get from winning.
this applies to everything in life, moments, real competitions, trying new things, being creative…everything.  in order to fully relish in your successes you have to feel the hurt of defeat, the “defeat” the “failure” THAT is what makes you try your hardest, that is what motivates you to do better and appreciate how far you have come.  and in times like these default to #4 and eat some chocolate;)

10. clear the clutter.
literally and figuratively of course.  only surround yourself with others that make you laugh so hard you can’t hardly breath.

love you all the way to jesus girls…

mommy

ETA: since i haven’t had a camera all month i rented one for a weekend and filled my soul with lifestyle-carefree-technically wrong-IMPERFECT-mommy goggle-moments

Letters to Our Daughters | January » Emma Wood Photography - [...] contine through this blog circle, starting with the amazingly talented Shalonda Chaddock of Chubby Cheek Photography, her photography is so beautiful and her use of light just out of this [...]

Val - I am in tears!!! This so beautiful & such an amazing thing to give to your daughters. Your photography & your outlook have always inspired me & given me something to strive towards. Now, I think I need to do some letter writing to my girls too :)

amy grace - shalonda, i love you more and more and more every time i hear your “voice”. this is brilliant and loving and fun and honest advice. every one of these is golden. the images, the items on this beautiful list, everything. no mommy goggles necessary. you are crazy for them, and that love is the best lens. those feet behind the curtain, what an amazing image. it says so much about the closeness in their lives. you are radical goodness my friend. you lift up all that you touch, with your exuberance, your kindness, your love, your talent. huge love on this.

julia - Oh, this is wonderful!! The very best advice, I’m going to take it to heart myself. I love your images as well, clearly a special bond between your girls (my favorite being the feet peeking out from behind the curtain…I can hear them whispering and giggling now…) <3

Ginger Unzueta - i am so glad I have gotten to know you through your work Shalonda. this post is just perfect. i love the advice you give your girls..all so real and true. all words i could totally attest to myself. those special girl friends they will have…they only need a few (including each other). i always think of my sisters and that special friendship only i know with them…and think how lucky my sweet girls are to have this too. and boy, i loved when you quoted yourself at the start….oh, how I feel that too. i could go on and on, but know, i love this. each word you shared.

Rashmi - So inspiring Shalonda. I can imagine your little girls printing out this email and sticking it on the inside of their middle-school lockers one day. Such great advice for ALL girls. I especially love eating chocolate on Monday..hehe. Beautiful words and photos my friend. Your daughters are so incredibly lucky to have such a thoughtful and kind mom.

Kirsty - Oh how I love this – I think this applies equally for all our girls, and especially the chocolate bit! Such practical advice makes for the perfect letter this month!

Debbie Wibowo - SHALONDA! I am so keeping those list for my daughter (except that I change no. 4 from chocolate to chips.) You are a cool mom with a big heart! I have a big puffy heart for the BW image where they sit together behind the curtain. Makes me wonder what they are doing, what are they talking about, are they giggling? Love it..oooh and I adore those freckles too.

Sara T - You have amazing heartfelt and perfect mommie advice. I love the one about the girlfriends. SO TRUE. I am in awe of your lovely light and color on your little beauts. I am in awe of all you say and your beautiful imagery every month. I need to follow your formula!

letters to our daughters ltr.5 …spring tx child photographer | Chubby Cheek Photography Houston, TX Natural Light Photographer - [...] Last month i wrote to you about life’s lessons i hope to teach you along the way, as we move forward on this journey together…THIS MONTH i want you to know what you are teaching ME!  Our days and nights…our moments, are so intertwined and are paths became one the moment we became one, and you have taught me so much along the way.  For as long as i can remember i knew i was meant to be a mommy, when daddy and i decided we were ready to grow from just a couple to a family, i read every book, every blog, every how to forum.  what no one tells you is that there is no possible way to KNOW HOW to be a mommy.  That is the best and scariest part of it (period).  every mommy is different, we are all perfectly imperfect in our own ways.  When you came along, cheeks #1, we were sooooo ready, so prepared and giiiiiirl…well YOU ROCKED OUR WORLD!  but we found our rhythm…and just about that time…cheeks #2 you came right along and completed us.  our routine, our rhythm, well yeah we had to find our way again.  and we did.  but the funny thing is, everyday brings the unexpected, it bring new experiences and new moments AND A NEW RHYTHM.  and that is lesson number one…JUST LET GO and enjoy the fall.
